According to Ms. Diane M. Weller, a recent investigation into Jere Beery’s military service record by the POW Network proves that Beery lied, embellished, and altered his military service records.

In April, Ms. Weller contacted Chuck and Mary Schantag, owners and operators of an organization (The POW Network) devoted to exposing phony veterans, and asked them to investigate Jere Beery’s military record. Yesterday, the Schantag’s released a series of documents they say were released to them under the Freedom of Information Act, and which to appear they came from the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis, MO.

Several years ago Jere Beery posted a copy of his DD214 & DD215 on his web site for public viewing. Weller and the Schantag took issue with two entries obviously added to Beery’s DD214 and the fact the copy was not certified. According to Jere Beery, he added the corrections to his DD214 and that the correct information is there. The Schantags claim that this action by Beery equates to a federal crime and Beery is guilty of “altering” his DD214.

In a recent telephone FBN interview, Beery responded; “I really don’t think anyone is going to prosecute me for putting the correct information on my DD214”, Beery stated. “All of the NPRC records that the POW Network received verify the corrections I made were legitimate. I didn’t lie about a damn thing. I also didn’t alter a damn thing, I added two corrections,” Beery said.

Chuck and Mary Schantag refuse to release a public statement about their findings, and privately continue to accuse Beery of altering his DD214. “Someone needs to explain to these people what the word ‘Altered” means. I altered or changed nothing,” Beery said.

Beery claims this all started when Ms. Weller and several others attempted to derail efforts by him and fellow veterans to hold a rally in Washington, DC. The rally went off as planned, in spite of slanderous rumors of fraud and unaccountability. “When they saw they couldn’t stop us with their lies, they started questioning and attacking our military service,” Beery claimed.

Jere Beery is demanding a public apology and clarification of the investigation. “I want my name cleared of all false accusations being leveled against me. These overzealous witch-hunters have no right slandering me or my service to this country, as well as the fine people I served with” Beery stated.

Jere Beery feels that until his reputation is publicly reinstated with a statement from the POW Network on what their investigation revealed, the issue is not dead. “I have spent several decades fighting for this country’s veterans. The story of my service in Vietnam is very well documented and has never been questioned before now. The veterans I serve rely on me to act in their best interest. When someone cast arbitrary and degrading doubt over my credentials and credibility, they negatively affect my efforts to serve our veterans. My reputation is the only thing I own, and I will not allow it to be played with in this way. For these people to accuse me of altering and embellishing my military records is an insult of the highest level,” Beery concluded.
